Privacy Policy
Last updated: 16 September 2026
This policy explains how Salaah Times (the Android app and the website at salaah-times.vercel.app) handles information. The Salaah Times team is responsible for the app. For privacy questions or requests, contact nest.app.comms@gmail.com.
Information used to provide the app
- Location and searches. You can choose a city manually or allow access to your device location. Coordinates, including precise coordinates when your device provides them, are used for prayer times, Qibla direction and nearby masaajid. City searches are sent to OpenStreetMap Nominatim. Coordinates and calculation settings are sent to AlAdhan when calculated prayer times or reminder calendars are needed. Nearby-masjid searches send coordinates and a search radius to our server and/or OpenStreetMap Overpass providers. Opening a map sends the selected place or coordinates to Google Maps. The app does not continuously track your location in the background.
- Preferences and offline data. Your selected city, last coordinates, language, appearance, text size, prayer calculation settings, notification preferences, cached timetables and announcement read state are stored on your device. The Android widget and reminders also store the timetable and settings they need locally. Compass readings are used on your device to display Qibla direction.
- Usage and device information. The app creates a random identifier in browser storage; this is not your Android advertising ID. While the app is visible, it sends this identifier, app version and page path approximately every 45 seconds to help count active devices. Our server records the browser/device user-agent and last-seen time. Announcement read receipts contain the identifier, announcement ID, app version and read time.
- Feedback and support. A love/dislike reaction sends the random identifier, reaction, app version and page path; the server adds the user-agent and time. If you use the in-app support form, we receive your message, topic, app version and your email address if you provide it. Please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information.
- Website analytics and hosting. We use Vercel hosting and Vercel Web Analytics to understand visits and app performance. Network requests expose technical information such as IP address, browser information and requested URLs to the service receiving them. Analytics can include page views, referral information, device/browser type and approximate region.
You do not need a personal account to use the public app. Google sign-in is used for the restricted administrator dashboard, where authorised administrators' account details are checked to control access.
Why information is used and who receives it
Information is used to provide prayer times and location features, remember preferences, deliver reminders, measure usage, improve the app, respond to feedback and operate the service. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
Service providers receive the information needed for their functions: Vercel for hosting and analytics; Supabase for configured usage, feedback and announcement records; AlAdhan for calculated timings; OpenStreetMap Nominatim and Overpass providers for searches; and Google Maps when you open a map. Feedback notifications may be processed by Resend or a configured notification service, and support correspondence by email providers. Providers may process information outside your country under their own privacy terms. We may also disclose information when legally required.
Provider information: Vercel, Supabase, OpenStreetMap Foundation, Google and Resend. Independently operated Overpass services may have their own terms.
Permissions and your choices
Location access is optional; you can select a city instead. You can revoke location, notification and sensor permissions in your browser or Android settings. Reminder settings control which prayers generate alerts. Android alarm and boot permissions allow enabled reminders and widgets to operate when the app is closed and restore after a restart.
You can clear website storage to remove saved browser preferences, coordinates, caches and the random identifier. Android app data and browser site data can be separate: clearing or uninstalling the Android app may leave website data in your browser. Clear both when you want to remove all local data. Using the app again may create a new identifier and new usage records.
Retention and deletion
Local preferences remain until you clear them or the app replaces them; cached data may expire or be replaced. Server-side usage, feedback and announcement records currently have no automatic expiry schedule. They may remain until deleted by the team or in response to a request. Support correspondence is kept as needed to handle your request and related follow-up; hosting logs, analytics and provider backups follow the relevant provider's retention practices.
To request access, correction or deletion of information we hold, email nest.app.comms@gmail.com with the subject “Salaah Times privacy request”. For support emails, use the same email address you originally contacted us from. For device-linked records, contact us before clearing site data so we can help identify the relevant random identifier. We may need additional information to locate a record or verify a request. Clearing local storage does not itself delete server records. Records that cannot be linked to you may not be identifiable; information may also need to be retained to meet legal obligations.
Security
The app uses HTTPS for network requests and restricts access to its administrator functions. No transmission or storage method is completely secure. Avoid including sensitive personal details in feedback.
Children's privacy
We do not knowingly ask children to provide personal information. A parent or guardian who believes a child has sent personal information can contact us to request its removal.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app or its services change. The date above identifies the latest revision. Material changes will be communicated through the app where appropriate.
